The Offshore Container Marking Process - BSL Containers
To emphasize why BSL offshore containers are the prime cargo transport method in the oil industry, the production process is so incredibly detailed. To add to the detail, the tops of closed offshore containers and the top rails of the open containers are marked with certain pieces of information that is very important.
Here are the requirements when marking BSLoffshore containers:
- The color is a solid contrasting color that is no more than 100mm around on the roof perimeter of the containers that are closed. If the container's roof recesses below the top perimeter rail, then it is ideal that the top rail should have the required marking.
- On containers that are open, the top rails should be marked with a solid contrasting color.
The markings contain certain instructions. For instance, the container may be one with fork pockets. The fork pockets are used when lifting the container when it is empty. If that's the case, the words “Empty Lift Only” should be marked on the container.
If a container is made of aluminum, then the words “ALUMINUM CONTAINER” needs to be marked on all four sides. The letters should only be about 75 mm high. Any other safety markings that are required by the society that provides certifications should not be more than 50 mm high.
The serial number of the container manufacturer, BSL Containers, also needs to be welded onto the offshore container with characters that are 55 mm high. The owner-issued container number should be painted onto the container on all four sides with a contrasting color. If containers are open, it may be necessary to attach panels that consist of the container number. If a roof is pleasant, the container number may be printed on the roof.
Information markings will also usually be placed upon the door if there are end doors on the container or another place on the side of the container if no doors are present. The markings should be of a contrasting color and state the maximum gross mass, the tare mass, and the payload.
Lifting sets and their components are marked and any other information may be provided. All of this information is required and constitutes the high quality of the container. This enables it to be used properly and reduces the probability of misuse.
